Very Hungry Caterpillar-Inspired Gift Presented to The Duchess of Cambridge

Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated their second anniversary and spent the day giving back to others. While William was on duty in north Wales as an RAF search and rescue pilot, Kate visited the Naomi House hospice in Hampshire.  The children at the hospice gave her a handmade image inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar as an anniversary gift. This thoughtful gift was meaningful, since Kate is expecting her first child in just a few months.

The framed artwork was painted on cotton, which is the traditional anniversary gift for the second year of marriage.  It consisted of felt and paper as well as the finger prints of all the hospice’s children, which were used to create leaves.  It was a very special day for the children, their parents and the staff and it is lovely to see how the work of Eric Carle has touched and continues to touch so many lives.

The World of Eric Carle and University Games Partner for a New, Innovative Game

University Games has been a licensee of the World of Eric Carle since 2006, creating engaging and educational games and puzzles for kids.  In a deal brokered by The Joester Loria Group, University Games continues to provide new and innovative games to the fans of The World of Eric Carle and we are very excited to announce the newest addition to the program: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Twirl and Toss game!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Twirl and Toss game allows players to toss fruit at the twirling caterpillar with the intention of sticking the fruit to its body. Using speed, accuracy and skill, kids try to get rid of all of their fruit. The first player to successfully toss all of their fruit and have it stick to the caterpillar wins the game. Kids delight in the twirling caterpillar and the challenge of the game while also unknowingly working on their hand-eye coordination.

The World of Eric Carle is a brand that prides itself on enriching a child’s approach to creativity, discovery, play and development. This game in particular is a developmental tool for children.  Hand-eye coordination is a skill learned at a young age. Some children have a hard time linking their movement to what they see and need to practice this brain function over and over in order for it to become natural. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Twirl and Toss Game is a perfect game for kids to interact with one another and have fun while they perfect their hand-eye coordination.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the most read children’s book in the UK and its worldwide sales are in the tens of millions.  Products based on the book and its star have won awards and topped sales charts worldwide.
